The Gospel is the sum of wisdom,
an epitome of knowledge,
a treasure house of truth,
and a revelation of mysterious secrets.
Turn aside and see this great sight--
the incarnate God upon a cross,
a substitute atoning for mortal guilt,
and a sacrifice satisfying the vengeance of heaven
and delivering the rebellious sinner.
Here is essential wisdom enthroned, crowned and glorified.
