A melting consideration

(Hopkins)

"Christ died for the ungodly." Romans 5:6

O what a melting consideration is this, that . . .
  out of Christ's agonyócomes our victory;
  out of His condemnationócomes our justification;
  out of His painócomes our ease;
  out of His stripesócomes our healing;
  out of His gall and vinegarócomes our honey;
  out of His curseócomes our blessing;
  out of His crown of thornsócomes our crown of glory;
  out of His deathócomes our life!

"Hearts must be harder than the rocksóif the love
 and death of Christ do not move them!" (Plumer)
